Adam Maarschalk has done such a scholarly work into Preterism (he started as a partial Preterist after being raised in Millennialism). He shows how every prophecy in Daniel points to the destruction of Jerusalem and the temple in 70 AD as well as Christ's return in 70 AD. It is imperative that we learn to read the bible from the perspective of the recipients, not clouded by our modern definitions and biases. Another thing to ponder upon: the bible is relatively new to Christianity, being compiled as we know it in the 1800s. Believers before then accomplished the will of God and grew in the faith without any New Testament teachings of any kind (think about the Ethiopian eunuch, who had no New Testament to lead others to Christ). If you look at all the error and unscriptural disciplines taught in the institutional churches today, we're actually better off without the bible and learning to listen to and follow the Holy Spirit.
